This one was a case of gross under-estimation, time and complexity.   This is a keyless drop down mantle, similar in design to the tactical mantles you can find, but exponentially higher quality materials and craftsmanship.  All walnut, finished with many many layers of shellac and hand rubbed to the finish you see below.  Came out awesome.
